Then if my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sins and restore their land. (2 Chronicles 7:14 NLT)
This country will never be great again until it is righteous again.
George Washington, the father of our nation, once said, “you do well to wish to learn our arts and ways of life, and above all, the religion of Jesus Christ. These will make you a greater and happier people than you are.” Samuel Adams, a signer of the Declaration of Independence, said, “that the confusions that are and have been among the nations may be overruled by the promoting and speedily bringing in the holy and happy period when the kingdoms of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ may be everywhere established, and the people willingly bow to the scepter of Him who is the Prince of Peace.” John Adams, a signer of the Declaration of Impendence and the second President of the United States wrote, “the general principles on which the fathers achieved independence were the general principles of Christianity. I will avow that I then believed, and now believe, that those general principles of Christianity are as eternal and immutable as the existence and attributes of God.”
Don’t believe what you hear that all the men who formed our government were bad people. Yes, they were imperfect people, just like you and me. Most of these men, not all of them, had a world-Christian view, as evidenced by their writings. Most Christians, not all, probably rejoiced at the result of the past election. God is not a Republican or a Democrat, but there is no moral equivalency between the governmental policies of the past four years and the proposed policies of the next four years. Granted, a flawed individual will lead our new government, but our hope is not in a man but in God. Only God can make us great again.
The promises of God are conditional. If we earnestly seek God, we are going to see our imperfections and need to turn from them, and then God will heal our land. I am guardedly optimistic, but I believe the battle has just begun to make America righteous again.
